Oh, God, having white friends is so hard. Four friends, one luxury spa, and a weekend that goes very wrong. I had this feeling every day on set of like, I can’t believe this is my job. We’re like away from the stress of home life. Yup. And yup. And I get to act and perform with these three women that are so brilliant. Have you ever had a spa weekend quite like this? For it to go so wrong, but then it be so right in the end? No, not really. That’s why the comic premise works. In bathrobes. In bathrobes, and they were really complicated, complex, fantastic characters.
Each with her own distinctive style, joining forces on the silver screen. Leslie Mann, Anna Faris, Michelle Boutot, and Isla Fisher. A magic mix of female friendship in their new film, Spa Weekend. And behind the scenes, even getting silly together in our greenhouse. Wait, here we go! It’s not the same! Leslie Mann, the comedic actress behind hits like This Is 40 and a frequent collaborator with her husband director Judd Apatow I lie about my age okay Okay Okay Okay Okay Okay Okay Anna Faris the comedic force who made her mark with her physical comedy in movies like The House Bunny and the Scary Movie franchise Hi, baby. Oh, oh, oh. Michelle Boutot, creator and star of the Netflix comedy series Survival of the Thickest. Oh my God, I’m not having a baby with Khalil, Luca.
He just came with me to my doctor’s appointment because he’s my support system. And Isla Fisher, the Australian actress whose credits include Wedding Crashers and Now You See Me. In Spa Weekend, they play stressed out moms who head to Palm Springs for a getaway, only to have their plans derailed when Isla Fisher’s oddball character tags along. What is your name, Princess? Kai. Oh, that’s such a stupid name. That’s so sad. Thank you. This is Jane. Hi, nice to meet you. She’s hot, she wants to potty. What was that like working with Adam? Well, I had watched Sex Life alone. There are worse things than being called the best sex of your life in print for the whole world to see. Okay, go find him. Yes. And so when I heard that he was going to play my love interest.
I was very excited during our rehearsal, trying to play it cool. And I remember he made eye contact with me. And I tried to like hold his eye contact But my eyes like it was like a little mini seizure No please don say things like that Obviously she on the older side but she’s got a porno body. Stand up, show your body. When Isla’s character enters the movie, then like the dream role becomes like a reality. Cause you’re like, oh, we’re in a physical comedy. Like it’s a funny situation. And I think what I love about my character is I feel like my character is kind of like, She comes in and she brings the chaos and in doing so, all the other kind of well-behaved characters have to drop the pretense. The movie comes from the writing and directing team behind hits like The Hangover.
But I’ve been waiting for this moment for all my life. One more time guys. Oh Lord. Oh shit. And Bad Moms. Oh my God. Okay, so let’s talk about some of the crazy scenes in the movie. The goat scene. I love you. Guys, I think I’ve ruined my fever. The goats are getting spooky. You know what? You’re coming on very strong. But I just found out, too, that the goats were not, like, I wasn’t expecting them to be trained. They were definitely not trained. They were not trained. And I have not a goat here ago. They were like farm goats. Yes, I knew that. We had sort of wild mountain goats, I would speculate. And they were much older than they told us they were gonna be. I just wanna speak on the goats’ behalf. The goats, I think they were intimidated by American actors, actors.
They were like oh my God I too old will I be a knob And they were you know what I mean And here we are Here we are age shaming the goats Not knowing where to stand I agree that we shouldn age shame them but it was the relentless pooping the relentless I said I was sorry. Between the laughs and chaos, the four say they also found a lot of common ground. How is it to juggle being a mom and being a working actress and loving what you do. Hard. Failing at all times. You can’t do everything. That’s why you need to be around friends and have some new experiences so you don’t get too caught up in the identity of mom and to nurture the other identities. For a better work-life balance, you cook a couple of really terrible meals so that then nobody asks you to cook for them. Oh, wow.
Yeah, and then that frees up some time. Yeah, that’s good. For these four, the message of Spa Weekend isn’t about escaping your life. It’s about remembering to live it. I will say it’s such a good message about, you know, moms that still have it, have the friends, trying to make time for them, and also that, like, we don’t stop having fun, even if we aren’t in our 30s anymore. I think we have more fun now. I mean, it’s for those women as well, but it’s also for the men who want to support the women. You can take them to this like really hilarious movie, maybe learn something about what women need to do and go through and stuff. That’s sexy too, all right? Our thanks to Stephanie.
